Honorary Doctorate Awarded to Professor Elaine Munthe
Professor Elaine Munthe, who serves on the Board of the University of the Faroe Islands, has been appointed Honorary Doctor at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway.
During the anniversary conference “Teachers Build Society,” Professor Elaine Munthe was honored as an Honorary Doctor at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway. She was described as both at the core and at the forefront of teacher education research in Norway.
Rector Dag Rune Olsen highlighted her significant contributions to Norwegian teacher education and called her a highly fitting honorary doctor in connection with the 200th anniversary of Norwegian teacher education in 2026.
“This would never have happened without the generosity of so many people who have given me great opportunities,” said a humble and grateful Elaine Munthe during the appointment ceremony.
Munthe has had an impressive career as Professor of Education at the University of Stavanger (UiS), serving as Head of Department, Dean, and Director of the Knowledge Centre for Education.
She has also led the largest evaluations of teacher education programmes in Norway.
We congratulate Elaine Munthe on this well-deserved honor and thank her for her invaluable contributions to the field of teacher education and to the University of the Faroe Islands.
