When academic staff at the University of the Faroe Islands are considered for promotion to Associate Professor or Professor, their application is submitted to an external assessment committee comprising researchers from universities abroad. Usually, a Faroese representative also serves on the assessment committee.

The task of the assessment committee is to assess the applicant on the basis of several criteria:

    • Scientific publications

    • Teaching and supervision

    • Research dissemination

    • Administrative experience

The assessment committee highlighted Jóhannus' particular strengths in research, teaching and academic activities. His scientific work spans the fields of ocean, atmospheric and environmental research.

He has also demonstrated his ability to secure external research funding and to establish an independent research environment.

The members of the assessment committee agreed that his academic and professional achievements met all the academic requirements and recommended that Jóhannus Kristmundsson be promoted to Associate Professor of Engineering at the University of the Faroe Islands.

The assessment committee consisted of Hans Pauli Joensen, Associate Professor Emeritus at the University of the Faroe Islands; Bogi Bech Jensen, Adjunct Professor of Energy Engineering at the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of the Faroe Islands; and Lars Dittmann, Professor at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU).

We at the University of the Faroe Islands warmly congratulate Jóhannus on his promotion!
