Three international recognitions to professor Qin Xin
Qin Xin, Full Professor of Computer Science at the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of the Faroe Islands, has received three international recognitions this summer for his research contributions in sustainable computing, applied artificial intelligence and optimisation, and cybersecurity.
The first recognition, the Outstanding Contribution to the Research Award, was presented at the International Conference on Sustainable Computing and Communication Technologies (ICSCCT 2026), held at the University of Malta on 20–21 June 2026.
The award recognises Professor Xin’s research contributions and significant impact on the advancement of sustainable computing and communication technologies. Professor Xin also served as TPC Co-Chair and Advisory Board Member for ICSCCT 2026.
The second award, the Research Excellence Award, was presented at the International Conference on Advances in Mathematics for Artificial Intelligence and Applications (ICAMAIA 2026), held in India on 19–20 June 2026.
Professor Xin received the award for his contributions to applied artificial intelligence, including the use of AI and optimisation to improve system performance, quality of service (QoS), transmission optimisation and advanced decision-making. He also delivered an online keynote speech at the conference.
The third recognition is a Certificate of Publication from IGI Global Scientific Publishing for his research contribution to the book Advancing Cybersecurity at the Intersection of Parallel Computing and Blockchain. Professor Xin is one of the book’s three editors, together with Valentina E. Balas and Ambeth Kumar V.D.
The book explores emerging approaches to cybersecurity at the intersection of parallel computing and blockchain technologies, with a focus on developing secure, efficient and trustworthy computing systems.
More than 200 peer-reviewed publications
The three recognitions add to an extensive international research career.
Professor Xin has authored or co-authored more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific papers published in international journals and conference proceedings, including Algorithmica, Theoretical Computer Science, Distributed Computing, IEEE Transactions on Computers, IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Computing, ACM Transactions on Internet Technology, IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering, and IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics.
His research focuses on the design and analysis of algorithms for wireless communication networks, cryptography, digital currencies and combinatorial optimisation, including applications in multi-criteria decision-making.

Professor Xin received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Liverpool in 2004. He completed his PhD in just two years – a process that would normally take more. Before joining the University of the Faroe Islands in 2011, he held research positions at the University of Bergen and Simula Research Laboratory in Norway, and at Université catholique de Louvain in Belgium.
Throughout his career, Professor Xin has also contributed extensively to the international computer science community, serving in a variety of roles at international conferences, including as session chair, member of technical programme committees, symposium organiser and conference organiser.
Among other activities, he was involved in organising the 17th and 18th Scandinavian Symposium and Workshops on Algorithm Theory, SWAT 2020 and SWAT 2022, both held in Tórshavn.
