On May 14 at 10:00, Alöna Roitershtein and Steve Harbert from Robert Gordon University in Aberdeen will give a guest lecture on sustainable tourism.
The lecture, which is open to the public, is titled "Sustainable Tourism: Is it Nearer or Further Away?" Following the lecture, which will be held in English, there will be time for questions and comments.
Briefly about the speakers:
Dr Alöna Roitershtein
Alöna is an Early Career Researcher at Robert Gordon University, working as a Research Assistant at RGU Orkney and Aberdeen Business School. With a keen interest in Northern and Arctic tourism, particularly in cold-water archipelagos, her research is rooted in the concepts of place, community, rurality and islandness, and their unique manifestation in each tourism destination, creating distinct sustainability needs, values and success definitions. Alöna's research interests include Sustainable tourism development, island studies, human geography, social sustainability and Scotland studies.

Steve Harbert
Prior to becoming a Lecturer, Steve spent 20 years as a successful manager in the Adventure Travel sector: with expertise in Product, Operations and general Business Management. His extensive travel experience engaged him in Responsible Tourism, which informed both his approach to product development and his subsequent areas of teaching interest. Steve is Course Leader for RGU's MSc International Tourism & Hospitality Management and has a lead role in developing the institution's approach to establishing Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) projects.
